Our Story

5th Principle Training Group was founded on a simple belief: people learn best when they understand why, not just how.

Too much firearms training focuses on memorizing techniques or copying an instructor. Our approach is different. We teach the underlying principles that drive performance, helping students diagnose problems, make better decisions, and continue improving long after the course ends.

Every class is built around practical application, thoughtful instruction, and a commitment to developing safe, capable, and confident shooters.

Meet Your Instructor

Most firearms courses teach students what to do.

We teach students why it works.

By understanding principles instead of memorizing techniques, students become better problem-solvers, more confident decision-makers, and more capable shooters. Our goal isn't to create dependence on another class—it's to give every student the knowledge to continue improving on their own.

That perfectly reinforces the philosophy you've built throughout the site.

Why We Teach Differently

Tim Rose

Founder and Lead Instructor

For more than 27 years, I served in the United States Army, leading light infantry formations and training soldiers in the safe and effective employment of weapon systems ranging from individual small arms to crew-served and larger caliber weapon systems.

Following my military career, I continued working as an Private Security Contracotr, where sound judgment, disciplined preparation, and practical firearms proficiency remained essential every day.

Those experiences reinforced a lesson I learned throughout my career:

Effective firearms training isn't about memorizing techniques.

It's about understanding the principles that produce consistent performance.

That belief became the foundation of 5th Principle Training Group.

My goal isn't simply to teach students how to shoot. It's to help them understand why techniques work, recognize and correct performance issues, and continue improving long after the course has ended.

Every class is built around practical application, logical progression, measurable performance, and individualized coaching so students leave with knowledge they can continue applying for years to come.
