Rifle Operator
Understand the Principles. Improve Your Performance.
Course Overview
Rifle Operator is a 6-hour course designed for shooters who already demonstrate safe firearm handling and can operate an AR-15-pattern rifle or common variant without instructor assistance.
Rather than teaching a collection of shooting techniques, this course develops a repeatable shooting process built on three primary performance drivers: connection to the rifle, trigger press, and vision. Through structured live-fire training, students learn how these fundamentals influence recoil, sight behavior, target accountability, and overall shooting performance.
Instruction follows a performance-based, diagnostic methodology. Students learn to observe the rifle’s behavior, interpret sight and target feedback, recognize performance deficiencies, and apply purposeful corrections. Each training block builds on the previous one, progressing from isolated fundamentals to integrated shooting skills, predictive and reactive engagements, and target transitions.
Range time is dedicated to skills that require live fire. Dry fire is incorporated only when appropriate to introduce and reinforce new concepts before confirming them under recoil. The emphasis is not on shooting more rounds—it is on understanding why the rifle behaves the way it does and developing a repeatable process that supports long-term improvement.
Whether your goal is personal development, competition, or professional application, Rifle Operator provides a structured framework that allows students to continue recognizing, correcting, and improving their performance long after the course is complete.
Training Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Apply the principles of practical rifle marksmanship to produce accurate, accountable hits.
Establish a connection to the rifle that is consistent, stable, and durable throughout the shooting process.
Use the firing hand to maintain a functional grip that supports an efficient trigger press and rapid manipulation of the rifle’s controls.
Use the support hand and buttstock-to-shoulder connection to control the rifle and produce predictable recoil behavior.
Assess rifle stability through physical feedback at the firing shoulder and visual feedback through predictable sight or optic movement and return.
Execute an efficient trigger press without unnecessarily disturbing the sights.
Maintain target-focused vision while observing sight movement throughout recoil.
Understand how connection to the rifle, trigger press, and vision work together to produce predictable firearm behavior.
Select the appropriate aiming scheme and visual confirmation based on the required level of accountability.
Apply predictive and reactive shooting principles while maintaining accountability.
Efficiently transition between multiple targets by leading with the eyes and driving the rifle to the line of sight.
Recognize performance deficiencies by evaluating firearm behavior, sight movement, and target feedback, then make meaningful corrections.
Develop a repeatable training process that supports continued improvement beyond the course.
Prerequisites
Rifle Operator is designed for shooters who possess basic firearm safety knowledge and can safely operate an AR-15-pattern rifle or common variant without instructor assistance.
Prior to participating in live-fire training, students must be able to:
Present a valid state or federal photo identification.
Complete and sign the required Hold Harmless Agreement.
Demonstrate safe firearm handling throughout the course.
Safely load, unload, fire, reload, reduce common stoppages, and clear the rifle without instructor assistance.
Advanced shooting skills, speed, and prior formal training are not required. Students are simply expected to perform these fundamental gun-handling tasks safely and independently so that course time can be dedicated to developing practical rifle marksmanship rather than teaching basic firearm operation.
Students who are unable to safely demonstrate these prerequisite skills may not be permitted to participate in the live-fire portion of the course at the instructor’s discretion.
Required Equipment
Students are responsible for providing the following equipment:
Serviceable AR-15-pattern semi-automatic rifle or common variant
